“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.” — The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

“Sometimes we’re on a collision course, and we just don’t know it. Whether it’s by accident or by design, there’s not a thing we can do about it…But life being what it is - a series of intersecting lives and incidents, out of anyone’s control.” — The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

10,000 Birds Trapped during the World Trade Center Light Beams → wired.com

bitchville:

They were thousands of birds, trapped into the beams, confused by the intense light while trying to go over New York City, en route to warmer climates. The birds saw the intense light from the distance and, lacking any other navigational reference in the sky, they went into it.

(*) The Only Magic Left is Art.: Aldous Huxley said that we are all geniuses until the age of ten. → theonlymagicleftisart.tumblr.com

theonlymagicleftisart:

Aldous Huxley said that we are all geniuses until the age of ten. I agree with this; I think I know what he meant. Most humans lose their child-like wonderment through systematic schooling and society’s  need to mold everyone into mundane adulthood. This is never a good thing. It’s why people have mid-life crisis or become self-loathing shells of their former self, because that child within has been repressed and often killed. I don’t mean you should poop your pants in Sears or throw Cheerios at a stranger…but, try to stay as curious as possible, as yearning as you were as a kid. Sometimes responsibilities get in the way, but if you hold on & yield to your inner child you will discover things about yourself that were dormant for years.

“He has outlasted eight U.S. presidents, survived countless CIA efforts to do him in, and his communist regime has remained in power for a generation after the collapse of his Soviet sponsors. So what does the leader of the 1959 Cuban revolution think now of the system he created? Last week The Atlantic reported Fidel Castro’s startlingly honest assessment: ‘The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore.’” —Castro tells the truth about Cuba (via newsweek)

Mohandas Gandhi: Scientific thought goes far beyond the academic sciences... → mohandasgandhi.tumblr.com

mohandasgandhi:

… or at least it should. If we utilized the scientific method for more than just scientific research, perhaps there wouldn’t be so much misinformation floating about. This particular mindset alone prevents so much abuse.

For instance, if you want to make the argument that homosexuals are immoral…

“No one is anyone, one single immortal man is all men. Like Cornelius Agrippa, I am god, I am hero, I am philosopher, I am demon and I am world, which is a tedious way of saying that I do not exist.” —Jorge Luis Borges, The Immortal (via @johannal)

“Zuckerberg may seem like an over-sharer in the age of over-sharing. But that’s kind of the point. Zuckerberg’s business model depends on our shifting notions of privacy, revelation, and sheer self-display. The more that people are willing to put online, the more money his site can make from advertisers. Happily for him, and the prospects of his eventual fortune, his business interests align perfectly with his personal philosophy. In the bio section of his page, Zuckerberg writes simply, “I’m trying to make the world a more open place.” — The Face of Facebook, The New Yorker
